Traditional know-how and modern technology, culture and sustainable urban development – what can we offer you to help you get started? In Salzland, we talk about the five white powders: salt, soda, cement, flour and sugar. And our soil – some of the best in Germany – also yields a great deal at the ground level. There’s plenty of room to move, and not just for agriculture and industry.
Beyond white gold It’s not for nothing that our district is called Salzland (“Salt land”). As far back as the Mioddle Ages, the region boasted wealth and importance from rich graduation works. In the mid-19th century, the town of Stassfurt became the birthplace of worldwide potash mining, and the european salt company (esco) extracts and processes large quantities of the 'white gold' in Bernburg to this day. Nowadays, the district is largely characterised by medium-sized companies with a variety of solid enterprises. Mechanical engineering and metal processing companies distinguish the Aschersleben region. Steering box and printing production complement processing companies in the Schönebeck region, while Calbe is home to environmental and extraction technology. Stassfurt carries on its long history of consumer electronics which reaches back as far as 1928. That’s when the town became home to the RFT radio plant and later to VEB Fernsehgerätewerk, the largest producer of TV sets in the former East Germany. Today, it is the largest production location for TechniSat. Excellent plant nurseries have set up in Gatersleben and Bernburg-Strenzfeld and Barby’s Cargil company established its profile through the production of wheat starch. In general, the foodstuffs industries has a solid footing in the entire area, with spices from Aschersleben, sausages from Könnern, Peissen and Stassfurt, beverages from Gänsefurther Schlossbrunnen – and on and on it goes.
