In the Salzland district, nine hospitals as well as numerous physicians, psychotherapists, physiotherapists, non-medical practitioners and self-help groups offer a broad range of therapies and practical assistance. There are specialist and rehabilitation hospitals for cardiology, metabolism, orthopaedics, neurology, oncology and pneumology. The famous Bad Salzelmen saline spa  in Schönebeck is the oldest spa of its kind in Germany. Since 1802 the healing power of saltwater has been used in numerous aspects of treatment: wellness, therapy, revitalisation, regeneration and relief for colds, allergies, skin diseases and kidney problems. The INNO-LIFE  centre of excellence for medical engineering and technology is also located in the spa park.
