Chemist, pharmacist, inventor. After Frank came to Stassfurt as the chemical lab technician of a sugar plant, he investigated the material excavated from rock salt extraction and discovered the importance of potash salt as a fertilizer. In 1861, he established the first potash factory in Stassfurt. He also developed procedures for the production of calcium cyanamide and bromine, conducted research into the production of hydrogen for airships and introduced the brown colouring of beer bottles.
