Modern times bring numerous rapid changes and we want to be ready. That’s why education, especially business-oriented vocational training, is so important to us here in the Salzland district, and we’ve been able to attract a large number of professionals to help us actively shape this process. The ‘Campus Technicus’, an all-day secondary school project organised by the district and its capital, which was opened in the centre of Bernburg in 2009, is unique. The successful ‘Porta Technica’ project is already expanding to include all age and educational groups and embrace the entire district. Learning in open schools with external partners, acquiring skills and orientation in practical projects – this enriches both the learning experience and the region. This same sentiment applies to the vocational ‘WEMA’ schools in Aschersleben and Stassfurt, and in Schönebeck where the study portfolio includes theoretical and on-the-job commercial training and inland navigation training. These courses attract interest well beyond the region, as does the Police University of Applied Sciences in Aschersleben. Its library, which currently holds 38,000 items, can also be used by external readers. The Bernburg site of the Anhalt University focuses on subjects related to ecology and agriculture. Music and evening schools supplement the range of vocational training to ensure learning is a life-long experience.
