Barleben boasts the headquarters of two high-tech companies of international renown. One is FuelCon, a world leading provider of test, production and diagnostic systems for fuel cells and batteries. The other is SensoTech, a specialist and trendsetter which provides systems for analysis and optimization of processes in liquids. Barleben is also home to companies from the printing and pharmaceuticals industries (Magdeburger Verlags- und Druckhaus GmbH, Sattler Media Press, Salutas Pharma GmbH – HEXAL). Other traditional industrial sites include Haldensleben and Oschersleben with a focus on automotive and pump manufacturing (WILO Oschersleben GmbH, oddesse Pumpen u. Motorenfabrik GmbH), Zielitz with potash mining (K+S Kali GmbH) and Seehausen with a focus on mechanical engineering. The agricultural and foodstuffs industries (Harry-Brot industrial bakery, Nordzucker AG sugar factory) also have a long tradition in the region as do the glass, ceramics and building materials industries (KERAMAG GmbH, Rockwool Mineralwolle GmbH), thanks to local deposits. Alongside more traditional sectors, new and innovative companies from the IT and telecoms sectors have also settled here. With its location right in the heart of Germany, the administrative district of Börde is an ideal site for the main warehouses of large companies like supermarket chains Edeka and ALDI, as well as logistics companies Toys R Us LogistikGmbH, Hermes Fulfilment GmbH, DHL and Deutsche Post, who make use of this key advantage in Haldensleben and Osterweddingen.
