The region between Harz and Colbitz-Letzlinger Heath offers proof that a healthy investment environment and healthy natural environment can thrive side by side. The excellent network of cycle paths makes an ideal way to visit this area. The countryside here is both impressive and diverse, ranging from Börde in the south, shaped by hundreds of years of crop farming, to the “Drömling” meadow and marsh landscape in the north, a valuable habitat for rare flora and fauna. And in the west we have Lappwald with its forested hills running all the way to the Elbe lowlands in the east. Low-impact tourism and local gastronomic specialities are also among the treasures of the Börde district. Impressive cloisters and interesting palaces are testament to a rich past, while the “Romanesque Road” takes visitors past medieval sights in Bebertal, Gross Ammensleben, Wanzleben, Hillersleben, Seehausen and Walbeck. The well-known Hundisburg baroque palace with its landscaped gardens at Althaldensleben-Hundisburg hosts the International Summer Music Academy, an excellent advertisement for the region’s cultural offerings. A rich industrial history has also left its mark on the district in the form of fascinating technical monuments which reward a visit.
