Magdeburg is regarded as the birthplace of mechanical engineering in Germany. Steam engines and hydraulic presses were produced here as early as 1830, and the boom which quickly ensued was associated with names like Gruson, Krupp and Polte – names which stand for precision and innovation. The industrial sector remains committed to this tradition and present-day Magdeburg is a modern and diverse location for large and medium-sized mechanical engineering companies. One example is FAM Magdeburger Förderanlagen und Baumaschinen (“Conveyer and Mechanical Engineering”) GmbH. The company has a long tradition of producing materials-handling technology and systems, large-scale equipment and stand-alone machines, with a portfolio ranging from project planning to production and assembly, right through to maintenance. SAM Stahlturm und Apparatebau (“Steel Tower and Apparatus Engineering”) Magdeburg GmbH, specialises in areas such as heavy steel construction for bridges, towers and custom-built constructions. SIGMA Maschinenbau (“Mechanical Engineering”) GmbH, meanwhile, produces bulk solids technology and belt drums while DREMA Maschinenbau (“Mechanical Engineering”) GmbH concentrates on gear units, MAT Maschinenbau- und Anlagentechnik (“Mechanical and Systems Engineering) GmbH on equipment for the chemicals industry, and SKET GmbH manufactures tailor-made precision parts and large components weighing up to 200 tonnes which are used for wind power plants among other things. In Magdeburg, modern technology and strong, innovative products come together with high-powered clusters and ideal infrastructure for logistics companies.
Innovative location for environmental technology and the energy industry. The recycling and environmental technology sectors are making their mark in our state capital in areas like landfill aftercare, waste and resource management and renewable energies. ENERCON GmbH, which has several subsidiaries as well as plants producing state-of-the-art wind power technology in Magdeburg, is setting new standards internationally. A market shares of around 60% in Germany and around 7% worldwide (with exports accounting for more than 60%) say it all. This environment proved irresistible to regiocom GmbH, a leading service and process provider to energy supply companies. In 2010, the company centralised their locations in their new headquarters located in the former Krupp-Gruson plant. Our region is building a successful and sustainable future in the energy sector – another good reason to set up business here. |
