Learning from life, learning for life and learning your whole life long – in the administrative district of Jerichower Land, these aren’t just empty words. Children, youths and adults are provided with education and further training here that encompasses every opportunity they could want. This starts with a finely meshed network of childcare facilities and schools, which includes top academic institutions like the Gommern European Grammar School, which has distinguished itself with bilingual lessons and its involvement in the ‘Schools without racism – schools with courage’ project. Further academic opportunities are provided by the Conrad Tack Vocational Training College with its diverse range of training and study courses: At the Theological University in Friedensau, meanwhile, the emphasis isn’t just on theology and church music, but also social work, healthcare, life counselling, music therapy and development cooperation, offering on-the-job study as well as English-language courses. Knowledge with rhyme and reason is also at the root of the Forestry Educational Centre Magdeburgerforth (FBZ) in Möckern, the only forestry educational institution in the Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt. Its core work includes not only the intra-company training of apprentice foresters, but also advanced training in the areas of forestry, nature protection and landscape maintenance, and, as an extra-curricular learning location, “Wald” (forest), the FBZ is also in demand as a project partner for schools.
The Institute for Fire and Catastrophe Prevention in Heyrothsberge is a modern educational facility and further training unit for hazard control. The Fire Brigade Institute of Saxony-Anhalt, also in Heyrothsberge, is a publicly funded research institute. In its work, it focuses on application-oriented fire safety research.
