Water hiking on the Saale River

The town of Calbe was first mentioned in a deed by Emperor Otto I on 13 September 936. Between 968 to 1680, Calbe formed part of the Magdeburg archdiocese, and the archbishops built themselves a summer palace on the banks of the romantic Saale River befitting their rank. Today, tourism and recreation on the water and river banks attracts a great number of weekend tourists.
