Salty fountain of youth

has a tradition of salt extraction reaching back more than 800 years. Germany’s first salt spa opened here in 1802. Saltwater was flushed out from underground and the resulting caverns were later used as subterranean inhalation spaces. In the latter years of World War II, the caverns were used to store artworks from the Berlin State Museum.
