Magdeburg’s waterway

Along with locks and a ship hoist, its main feature is the 918m-long open bridge – the largest in the world – which leads from the Midland Canal via the River Elbe to the Elbe-Havel Canal. This doesn’t just represent an impressive piece of technology in the midst of alluvial forests, but saves ships from having to take a 12km detour.
