The Romanesque Road covers around 80 stops throughout Saxony-Anhalt, the heartland of the early German kingdom. Its fortresses, cathedrals, cloisters, monasteries and churches are testament to the process of Christianisation. The original of the relief from Gröningen Monastery, the only surviving large-scale German sculptural work from this era, is displayed in Berlin’s Bode Museum.
