At 220 hectares the Colbitz linden forest is the largest such forest in Central Europe and one of Germany’s oldest protected nature reserves. With the end of forestry operations around 1880, a primeval forest-like vegetation structure has since formed here. The oldest lindens are between 180 and 200 years old.
